Savoury Sattu Drink

Savoury Sattu drink is a traditional Indian beverage made from roasted gram (chickpea) flour or Sattu powder mixed with water and various seasonings. Popular in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, it is known for its refreshing taste, high nutritional value, and cooling effect during hot weather. Ingredients

Making savoury sattu powder
250 gm roasted chana
2 tsp roasted cumin
2 tsp black salt (or to taste)
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp red chilly powder

Making sattu drink
2 tbsp savoury sattu powder
2 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp chopped fresh coriander leaves
A few ice cubes (optional)
water as needed

Instructions

Making savoury sattu powder
Add all the ingredients mentioned above into a mixer jar and grind finely.

Making sattu drink
Put 2 tbsp savoury sattu powder in a glass or bowl.
Add the chopped coriander.
Add few drops of lemon juice.
Add a few tablespoons of water and whisk into a smooth paste to prevent lumps.
Gradually add the remaining water while stirring continuously.
Stir well and serve immediately over ice.

Notes

Quick Variations
Extra cooling: Add a few fresh mint leaves, chopped onion and green chillies.
Higher protein: Increase sattu to 4–5 tbsp and use slightly more water.
Tangier: Add more lemon juice or a little grated raw mango when in season.
Buttermilk version: Replace half the water with chilled buttermilk for a richer flavor.

100–120 calories
6–8 g protein
Good amounts of fiber and complex carbohydrates

This drink is especially refreshing during hot weather and can work as a light breakfast or mid-day snack. Very suitable drink for diabetics also
